Care with structure, warmth, and room for your voice.
"When you move your focus from competition to contribution, life becomes a celebration. Never try to defeat people. Just win their hearts." ~Buddha

Care that respects the whole picture.
These are the values I bring to the practical work of therapy and to the relationship we build together.
Finding the “right” therapist to accompany you on your journey is not about competition. There are plenty of great therapists who provide individual counseling, couples counseling, family therapy, and life coaching in Kalamazoo. And, while all of the profiles of therapists will probably say something like “I love what I do” and that they “offer a warm, safe, compassionate, and respectful presence” (which we would also say, too), there are some things that I feel makes me particularly special both as a clinician but also as a business owner.
Professionalism
Therapy with me isn’t “just talk,” where I just nods me head and ask “How did that make you feel?” Therapy with me includes formally creating a “ treatment plan” with you to help direct your time and ensure that the time is effective. Professionalism also means that you have direct access to me to have your questions answered and any concerns addressed.
Respect
I recognize that therapy is an investment of your time, money, and energy. I work to respect that investment in several ways. First, I provide you with a private and secure office environment where you can focus on in-person visits. Second, I offer a user-friendly online client portal where you can securely communicate with me, pay your bill, or schedule an appointment. Third, in addition to having direct access to me, I help you determine your insurance benefits and bill daily. So, no more guessing or chasing information or people to have your questions answered. I am the definition of a female-owned and -operated small business. And, I take the business aspect of my therapy practice as seriously as the therapy part!
Efficient
Therapy at Inner Peace Counseling, PLC is not “just talk” and includes creating a collaborative treatment plan with me. But, I want to respect your time in other ways, too. With me, you can expect to hear from me within one business day. And you can expect me to bill daily to help your insurance process smoothly with no delays. I love what I do and am passionate about helping people. But, I also feel that that means the business must run smoothly and respectfully, as well.
Diversity
Not only do I have a Diversity and Inclusion Policy that helps to illustrate my commitment to me treatment of other, particularly clients. But, I also offer vast diversity in credentials, training, and specialties.
My credentials include: Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider, Certified Nutrition Recovery Coach, Nutrition Network Practitioner, Certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, Journey Practitioner, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/”Tapping”) Practitioner.
If you want to get technical, my treatment orientation includes: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Recovery, The Gottman Method for couples counseling, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.
My trainings include: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Suicide Prevention, LGBTQIA+ Diversity Training, and Gottman Couples Therapy Training.
Client-Driven
While I am here to support you and have training and experience that I believe can help get you where you want to go, I am not the expert. You are the expert of your life. I take what you are looking for – whether traditional psychotherapy or life coaching – and put you in the driver’s seat. I collaborate with you to offer suggestions and insights. And, I will always be here for you. But, my goal is to empower you by giving you the practical skills and tools that help me to eventually work myself out of a job!
